ASSESSMENT OF RESIDENTIAL CARE FACILITIES FOR OLDER ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES

Purpose

The purpose of this project is to assess Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) to determine how well these community-based facilities address the functional, health and psycho-social needs of residents with varying levels of functional impairment (from mild to severe).

Methodology

Data are collected by interview from both residents and facility managers. Various size facilities are included.

Preliminary Results

Data have been collected from 13 facilities and 65 residents. Data have been collected from nine large facilities and four medium bed-size facilities. All facilities include residents with memory problems as well as those with physical disabilities. Data collection is continuing.
