Progressive Degree (Advanced Placement) Master of Science in Gerontology

The Advanced Placement M.S. program allows the outstanding student who has completed a Bachelor of Science in Gerontology to waive several courses in order to complete the master’s degree in 36 units rather than the 52 units for the regular program.

Students interested in the program should apply at the end of their Junior Year or beginning of the Senior Year. The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) should have been taken prior to making application.

Submit a regular graduate application packet to the School (forms are available in the School Office) which consists of University Application, Transcripts, GRE score on Aptitude portion, 3 letters of reference, Information form, and Statement of Interest and Goals. Applications are to be submitted in February for Fall consideration and in October for Spring consideration. Students must meet graduate level criteria.

Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Aging (128 units)
Master of Science in Gerontology (36 units)

Physiology of Development and Aging
Life Span Developmental Psychology
Life Span Developmental Sociology
Social Policy and Aging (determined by area of specialization)
In Addition:  
Integrating Gerontology: A Multidisciplinary Approach

Gerontology skill courses
Gerontology electives
Total 36

Program Adaptation

Three of the following courses, GERO 510, GERO 520, GERO 530 and GERO 540, will be waived for students in the advanced placement track. Advanced placement students admitted to dual degree programs must meet curriculum requirements for the respective programs.
