Alexis M. Kogan Coulourides

Alexis began her studies in gerontology this fall as a first-year MSG student at the Leonard Davis School. She complements her studies at USC by working as a research assistant for Dr. Susan Enguidanos and in conjunction with Partners in Care Foundation. Her current research work addresses a large area of healthcare interest, including: end of life care, social work in primary care, inpatient Palliative care, and chronic disease management through nutrition and exercise.

Alexis is a native of Southern California and has returned home after receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. She studied Exercise and Sports Sciences, French, and was a four-year letterman and NCAA student athlete as a member of the women’s tennis team. Before coming to USC, Alexis worked for one year in her family’s business as French wine importers for Trader Joe’s and other retail groups, as well as working for one year as a research assistant for Partners in Care Foundation. Alexis is an avid tennis player and current newlywed to her college sweetheart, Michael…also a tennis player.

Kayleigh Duffy
(Undergraduate Student)

Kayleigh Duffy, president of the Student Gerontology Association, is an undergraduate interested in clinical psychology and gerontology. She plans on going to graduate school to obtain a master’s degree in clinical psychology and ultimately pursue a career in helping seniors with therapeutic needs. According to Duffy, one of the greatest aspects of being a student at USC is belonging to the Trojan Family, and this is an experience truly exemplified, she said at the USC Davis School of Gerontology.

“It is no wonder that students from all over the world apply to be part of this groundbreaking program. It is recognized as being the number one School on aging in the nation, and the caliber of education taught is without a doubt the very best.”

Duffy enjoys the individualized attention and the opportunity to interact with world renowned professors who are experts in various fields of aging, an experience that students would not find in any other program on gerontology.

“The wealth of knowledge and opportunity available to us is second to none, and the passionate staff helps us to make the most of our abilities.”

Finally, a few words of wisdom from an MSG graduate:

“Start the job search now, don’t wait until graduation. Begin by identifying the organizations/companies that are in line with your career goals and learn as much as you can about them. This will give you a clearer understanding about what skills and/or knowledge it is you need to focus on the remainder of the year.”
