USC gerontology professor Donna Benton has received a Fearless Caregiver Award for her support of Los Angeles families.
Benton, a research assistant professor at the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, works on caregiver research related to Alzheimer’s disease. She also is director of the Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center.

“I was pleasantly surprised by the award, which really is an honor for the staff at the LACRC and a recognition of the importance of supporting families,” Benton said.

“Families take care of their own,” she said. “We at the LACRC are here so that families don’t have to feel they are alone.”

Benton has led training workshops on how to manage caregiver stress, emphasizing outreach to African Americans.

Gary Berg, the Florida-based editor of Today’s Caregiver magazine, presented his publication’s award at the Fearless Caregiver Conference in Los Angeles.

The award was sponsored by the magazine, Shield Healthcare and the City of Los Angeles Department of Aging.
