New Officers Announced for Student Gerontology Association

By Julia Kwei

The Student Gerontology Association (SGA) has announced four new officers to serve as cabinet members for the 2007 spring and fall semesters. The new appointees are Laura Davis as alumni chair, Issac Shr as secretary, Valerie Flores as social chair, and Sean Sachdev as newsletter editor. Their collective goals as SGA representatives are to plan and carry out educational, philanthropic and social activities throughout the academic year.

Courtney Wise, current SGA president, is thrilled about the new appointments. “These positions were not filled from elections last spring,” Wise said. “This year our goal was to get more undergraduate involvement.”

Wise accomplished her goal.  All of the new positions are held by undergraduates although these positions have typically been held by graduate students.  They all ran unopposed and are eager to be a part of the student run cabinet and play leadership roles.

Sean Sachdev, newly elected newsletter editor, said he was not involved his first two years in college and wanted to become more aware of activities and contribute to the school.

Laura Davis has taken the largest responsibility of the new positions.  She will play a major role in planning the Student and Alumni Dinner in the spring.  SGA is currently raising funds and looking for sponsors for this dinner.  Their goal is to raise $7,000 by March.

With the enthusiasm of the new officers and the experience of the current cabinet, SGA members are anticipating an exciting and productive year.
