Holiday Drive Makes the Season Special for Six Families of Caregivers
USC Davis School maintains a holiday tradition started by the LACRC 10 years ago.
Ten years ago, Shawn Herz, director of program development at the Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center, transformed the USC Andrus Center’s holiday gift exchange.
“Originally, the USC Davis School tradition was that everyone in the building would bring in a gift worth five dollars to exchange during the holiday party,” Herz explained. “I asked if instead of this gift exchange, would it be okay if people in the center brought needed goods for LACRC clients.”
LACRC clients have been benefiting from this collaboration ever since. This year’s drive provided needed goods for six LACRC families to celebrate the holiday season.
“The donations were significant in making the holidays for our families,” Herz said.
With medical bills piling up, eight children, and one on the way, the gift could not have come at a better time for Christine Anderson.
“When they handed us that box full of food and toys, it felt like hitting the lottery.”
