USC Davis School Alum to direct Latino diversity outreach at AARP
Rigo Saborio, M.S.G. ‘94, appointed director of Diversity Outreach and Alliances
As director of Diversity Outreach and Alliances, Rigo Saborio, M.S.G. ‘94, will oversee the integration of recommendations of the AARP Hispanic/Latino Task Force into AARP’s core operational plans.
Saborio started his career with AARP in 2000 as manager of State Operations for the California State Office and was promoted in 2004 to director of State Management. Most recently, he served a 12-month assignment as senior advisor for Hispanic Outreach and Relations for State and National Initiatives and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
“He has brought commitment, passion and strong interpersonal skills to all his AARP assignments,” said Debbie Dalton, AARP Associate State Director, Orange County/Inland Empire. “Rigo has many years of experience in the field of aging with emphasis on public policy, diversity outreach, administration and direct service.”
Prior to AARP, Rigo served as director of the Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center at the USC Andrus Center, where he focused on strategic diversity alliances, government relations and planning. Rigo’s other experiences include working for the U.S. House of Representatives Select Committee on Aging and in the long-term care programs of Los-Angeles-based Alta Med Health Services Corporation. He has served on numerous state and local boards, committees and task forces in California focusing on advocacy, diversity and service issues related to aging. He has a B.S. from the Cal State system and a Master of Science in Gerontology from the USC Davis School.
“Throughout his career and particularly at AARP, Rigo has distinguished himself as a team builder whose core values embody both the spirit and the power of diversity and inclusion,” Dalton said. “Likewise, his involvement in many segments of AARP has highlighted his commitment to working across the entire organization to maximize our potential.” |
