The USC Davis School of Gerontology’s Sean Curran, Ph.D. won the New Scholar Award in Aging from the Ellison Medical Foundation (EMF). Providing support for newly independent investigators, the award will provide Dr. Curran with $400,000 to pursue his biomedical research on aging.

“EMF has a long history of supporting both junior and senior researchers in the field of aging and age-related diseases, and I am honored to be selected,” Curran said. “This support will facilitate the initiation of new research projects in the lab and will be instrumental in the successful establishment of my research program.”

In addition to financial support, EMF also organizes an annual meeting where new and established scholars can meet and collaborate. For Curran, who also holds joint appointments with the Keck School of Medicine and the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, he hopes that his win and subsequent research will help shine a spotlight on his gerontology colleagues around the world.

“While the Davis School is well established as a leader in the field in gerontology,” he said, “I hope that my participation in the EMF will provide increased exposure and an appreciation of the work being conducted at the Davis School, by biogerontologists at other institutes and to the scientific community as a whole.”
