Please briefly describe your position and your company:
We are a real estate investment company that develops residential properties.
Why did you choose to study gerontology at the USC Davis School?
I was introduced to the school by a family friend. I had always loved doing service work for older persons, and thought that integrating the education with my passion for older persons could develop into an interesting career.
How did you learn about your current position? Was it through an internship, a previous job, or a connection through USC?
Through hard work! No USC affiliation, unfortunately.
Please briefly describe how the USC Davis School’s curriculum helped prepare you for your current position.
Although I have not yet integrated my gerontology education with my career formally, my goal is to develop an accessible living community as one of our future projects (5 year goal, I hope!).
I did integrate Gerontology for some time doing an internship with Bet Tzedek, a clinic that provides free legal advice to low income seniors and helps protect seniors from many types of abuses.
What advice would you offer to a prospective student interested in studying gerontology at USC?
I would let them know that gerontology is a field that creates opportunities for many careers. From becoming a doctor or a lawyer, to working in a business capacity with a health care company or a hospital, to working as a social worker, to working in research or teaching, gerontology has many applications. Further, when applying for jobs or graduate schools, the degree also helps distinguish you as a candidate.
