Why did you choose to study gerontology at the USC Davis School?

  1. The prestige – the Davis School is the oldest and largest gerontology program in the world.
  2. The world-class education from experts in the fields of biology, public policy, psychology, sociology, neuroscience … I could go on and on.
  3. A plethora of research opportunities for all programs (bachelors, masters and doctorate).
  4. For those interested in the Masters program, the unique opportunity to receive a dual degree in gerontology and business, law, public policy, social work or public administration.

How did you learn about your current position?  Was it through an internship, a previous job, or a connection through USC?

I learned about my current position from my former USC professors, Dr. Jon Pynoos and Dr. Phoebe Liebig.

Please briefly describe how the USC Davis School’s curriculum helped prepare you for your current position.

In the last year I transferred from a public sector, political position with emphasis on policy development to a private sector, medical research position with emphasis on program development. My ability to maneuver so easily between these employment opportunities is rooted in the multidisciplinary education I received from the USC Davis School of Gerontology. Bottom line – the education you will receive from the Davis school will prepare you for any position!

What advice would you offer to a prospective student interested in studying gerontology at USC?

Apply … and apply soon! To put it simply – to age is part of life’s journey; to be in a field that intersects with all humanity is a professional (and personal) opportunity one would be wise not to pass up.
