Please briefly describe your position and your company:

I am currently a Project Director at the UC Irvine, Center for Health Policy Research.

As a Project Director, I manage multiple grant-funded projects and coordinate several international conferences each year.  I am also developing the new graduate programs in public health and clinical sciences in the School of Medicine at UC Irvine. 

The Center for Health Policy Research is a research unit at UC Irvine.  Our primary goals is improving quality of care and reducing disparities in healthcare.

 

Why did you choose to study gerontology at the USC Davis School?

USC offered the most comprehensive program with internationally renowned faculty and a complete graduate school experience. 

 

How did you learn about your current position?  Was it through an internship, a previous job, or a connection through USC?

A friend from the USC gerontology program told me about the opening at UC Irvine.

 

Please briefly describe how the USC Davis School’s curriculum helped prepare you for your current position.

The curriculum provided a broad base of knowledge about the field of aging, policy and the healthcare field.  Also, the academic environment prepared me for my current position. 

 

What advice would you offer to a prospective student interested in studying gerontology at USC?

    • Use all the available resources at USC. Take advantage of classes in different departments/schools. 
    • Explore all of your career options while you are in school.  Investigate internships, talk with alumni, and use the faculty as a resource.
    • Form strong relationships with your peers and keep in touch after you graduate.
    • Knowledge is power.  Go the extra distance to learn as much as you can from the brightest people in the field of aging.
    • Determine what you drew you to the field of aging and find your nitch in the aging market.
