Please briefly describe your position and your company:
Our consulting practice specializes in organizational & program development and fundraising. Many clients over the years have been aging service organizations and public funders of aging services.
Why did you choose to study gerontology at the USC Davis School?
Through a wonderful coincidence, I began working at a “summer camp” for older adults as an undergraduate. This led to other work with seniors and a strong interest in gerontology. Studying at the Davis School was a natural choice for graduate school, due to its stellar reputation and strong focus on a newly burgeoning professional field.
How did you learn about your current position? Was it through an internship, a previous job, or a connection through USC?
While I created my current position, my first job after graduation (L.A. County Area Agency on Aging) resulted directly from a student internship.
Please briefly describe how the USC Davis School’s curriculum helped prepare you for your current position.
The curriculum gave me a well-rounded perspective on the aging process, age-related issues and important public policy needs. The internship program was exceptional, providing invaluable work experience, lasting professional connections and school credit to boot!
What advice would you offer to a prospective student interested in studying gerontology at USC?
Go for it! Opportunities abound, the work is incredibly important, and exceptional, smart and caring people are needed to fight the good fight. The Davis School remains a recognized, highly regarded leader and innovator.
