Zach Gassoumis

Zach Gassoumis is in his fifth year of the gerontology PhD program and anticipates a May 2012 graduation. Working under Dr. Kate Wilber, Zach's research at USC has focused on various aspects of quality of life for older adults, with specific concentration on the application of quantitative methodologies to large population-based datasets. His dissertation assesses the financial security of racial/ethnic minority and immigrant populations, with an emphasis on the Latino baby boom population. Other research projects he has undertaken recently include: predicting transitions from the nursing facility to the community; measuring the prevalence of elder abuse in racial/ethnic minority communities; and evaluating an elder abuse intervention, the elder abuse forensic center model. Zach is the current recipient of a doctoral dissertation fellowship from the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College and previously served as a pre-doctoral fellow at the USC Edward R. Roybal Institute on Aging. He earned his B.Sc. in Natural Sciences (psychology & anthropology) from the University of Durham, England.
