Principal Investigator

Vern L. Bengtson, Ph.D. AARP/university professor of gerontology, professor of sociology, was the impetus behind the 1971 study and continues today, as principal investigator, to direct its ongoing operation. In addition, Professor Bengtson is director, division of Social and Behavioral Sciences in Andrus' Gerontology Research Institute and director of Multidisciplinary Research Training in Gerontology.

Several generations of graduate students have come and gone since the study began. They have been trained in research methods and quantitative skills, and assisted greatly in the analyses of these surveys. As part of the research team, five post doctoral fellows have participated in developing analyses
and design strategies to explore the data.
