Summary

Assists director in planning, development and administration of training, prevention and outreach programs offered by Student Counseling Services. Coordinates overall day-to-day operations of training services. Provides clinical and administrative supervision to all training staff. Provides professional individual counseling and psychotherapy for students having concerns of an educational, vocational, personal, social or emotional nature. Leads groups for both counseling and staff training purposes. Provides consultation services for faculty, staff and students. Conducts or assists in research on student needs. Provides on-call coverage for potential crisis situations. Maintains strict adherence to principles of confidentiality. Reports to Director, Counseling and Psychological Service.

% Provides overall supervision of staff in the following agency operational areas: training, supervision, outreach prevention programs, and department and school liaisons. Recommends structure, reporting relationships and staffing needs based on program goals. Makes hiring promotional and salary decisions in accordance with university policy. Provides performance appraisals for staff and determines need for disciplinary action. Oversees professional development for staff members. Assumes administration and supervisory responsibilities for the Student Counseling Services in the director's and associate director's absences when assigned.


% Conducts training programs for peer educators, faculty and departmental staff concerning student issues. Assists in development, implementation, and evaluation of such programs. Oversees and coordinates all clinical and training records including requests for records and client and trainee forms.


% Works with training director in selecting predoctoral psychology interns.


% Coordinates the assessment of outcome evaluation, training, clinical services, and outreach programs.


% Oversees all case assignments to trainees. Assists associate director with wait list and clinical load as necessary. Provides assistance with on-call, phone assessment, and crisis and leave requests, as needed.


% Serves on department executive committee assisting with establishing policies and procedures, and staff development programming. Implements, coordinates, and evaluates the training policies and procedures. Co-chairs the Student Counseling Training Committee and facilitates various training improvements.


% Oversees the maintenance of center's monthly event calendar. Manages the marketing, multimedia and production of center's events such as staff development, training, education, and outreach programs. Ensures continuity with mental health community resources including hospitals.


% Provides professional counseling and psychotherapy on an individual basis for students. Conducts structured and unstructured groups. Screens and assists all walk-in students and consultations from the community when serving as on-call counselor. Provides assistance in resolving concerns which are affecting academic performance, vocational choice, and personal, social, and emotional health. Completes all paperwork in conjunction with counseling work. Provides referral information to students and others requiring services that are not available through Student Counseling Service.


% Provides crisis intervention counseling and referral in cases of emergency such as pregnancy, assault, rape, psychosis, suicidal or homicidal ideation, family illness or death, or other personal crisis affecting an individual's emotional well being.


% Designs, develops, implements and conducts programs or workshops of varying length to meet specific student and staff needs. Evaluates needs for specific programs or workshops for students and staff.


% Oversees accreditation from professional organizations.


% Collaborates in a professional and ethical manner with other staff at Student Counseling Services and in community. Participates in senior consultation meetings presenting cases for feedback from colleagues and providing feedback to others on their cases. Offers clinical consultations to staff and trainees.


% Assists in the development of outreach activities which make faculty, staff and students aware of assistance provided by the service. Oversees relationships with mental health community resources including hospitals.


% Establishes and maintains liaison with university staff and faculty who work with students. Consults with various university staff members (e.g. Residence Staff, Academic Advisors) on needs of individual students, as well as needs for program development, implementation, and evaluation.


% Develops and implements security related procedures such as office opening and closing routines, recognition of duress signals and key controls. Coordinates security activities with university public safety department. Promotes and maintains standards for security conscious awareness and behavior. Maintains knowledge of university's crime prevention and suppression programs and services. Ensures dissemination of security related information to staff.
Emergency response/recovery:    
In the event of an emergency, the employee holding this position is required to "report to duty" in accordance with the university's emergency operations plan and/or the employee's department's emergency response and/or recovery plans. Familiarity with those plans and regular training to implement those plans is required. During or immediately following an emergency, the employee will be notified to assist in the emergency response efforts, and mobilize other staff members if needed.

Must be licensed professional with five years' clinical experience. College counseling leader with extensive supervision with a multidiscipline professional team. Expertise working with difficult people and current protocols. Excellent assessment skills of individuals, group, systems, and organizations. Ability to articulate full assessment and interventions concerning dysfunctional students to appropriate parties. Ability to provide excellent supervision on high risk students. Extensive knowledge and ability to utilize technology and guide staff into next century. Aware of quality assurance measures in the field. Demonstrated excellent social and interpersonal skills, including communication skills, boundaries, assertiveness, conflict management, flexibility, and leadership skills. Demonstrated excellent organization and time management skills. Must be able to work under stress. Degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or related discipline. Clinical experience in college counseling with administrative background
