Welcome From the Epstein Department Chair
Welcome to the Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Southern California. The Epstein ISE Department is a rapidly expanding academic unit in the Andrew and Erna Viterbi School of Engineering. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to providing the best possible experience for students who want an education that integrates engineering, technology, and management. The systems view pervades our curriculum. We have graduates working in consulting, technology development, software, supply chains, manufacturing , engineering management, and many related areas. Epstein ISE graduates find professional success in all sectors of the economy, private, public, and every combination in between.
In 2002, we became the first named department at the University of Southern California - The Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. The founder and CEO of ConAm Management Corporation, Daniel Epstein used his ISE education to become a leading real estate developer and manager. Mr. Epstein recently donated $11 million to the department to enable us to recruit new, additional faculty members in information technology and engineering management.
Our undergraduate degrees are excellent preparation for professional engineering practice, technology commerce, related professional activities, or as the intellectual foundation for further graduate or professional study anywhere. Our graduate degrees prepare students for the most advanced work in the field, either as industry professionals or as academic personnel. Our graduate program in Systems Architecture and Engineering is a unique, nationally prominent collaboration with industry and other universities. Four of our graduate degrees are available to off-campus students via the USC Viterbi School's Distance Education Network (DEN). Distance education students participate in real time lectures and discussions that are offered concurrently to students on the USC University Park campus.
In 2007, we will launch a new Graduate Certificate in Health Systems Operations that jointly sponsored by the School of Policy, Planning and Development's (SPPD) acclaimed Master of Health Administration program (MHA). Students with undergraduate engineering or science degrees may. subject to program admission, apply coursework completed for this new Certificate toward the Epstein ISE Department's Master of Science degree in Engineering Management (MSEMT), or toward SPPD's MHA degree, depending on their professional objectives. Students with nontechnical backgrounds may apply Certificate courses toward the MHA degree if accepted into that program.
Please feel free to contact our Educational Services Coordinator, Ms. Evelyn Felina, at 213-740-7549.
