Education
Dr. Belson received his B. S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington. He received his M.S. from UCLA in Engineering and Management. He received his Ph.D. degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a minor in Economics from the University of Southern California. Dissertation was "The Application of Engineering Models to Economics".
Experience
Dr. Belson has held positions in management and in consulting for over 25 years. He has held management positions with Ernst & Young, IBM, Universal Studios and Tefen Ltd. Much of this work involved consulting with various organizations and corporations in manufacturing, media, transportation, real estate and health care regarding operations improvements. He has been a member of the full time faculty in the Department of Industrial Engineering and in the USC School of Cinema-Television. He has taught at UCLA and in several European universities.
Dr. Belson's business experience includes a start-up business involved in digital media. He has done independent consulting with companies such as Providence HealthCare, Roche Pharmaceutical, and Nissan Automobile Company. He has provided expert testimony involving litigation, transportation and parking.
Honors
Dr. Belson was a Fulbright Distinguished Research and Teaching Fellow conducting research on productivity in Eastern Europe.
He is a member of the Industrial Engineering (Alpha Pi Mu), Economics (Omicron Delta Sigma) and graduate studies (Phi Kappa Phi) honor societies. He is a licensed Engineer by the State of California.
Research Interests
Health care process improvement projects, particularly in improving patient flow. Management Engineering involved surgery, radiology, and overall hospital operations. Current research activity includes:
