February 16, 2008 — Epstein ISE Department Chair Jim Moore was honored by the Orange County Engineering Council as the inaugural recipient of the Council's Pioneer Educator Award at the Council's annual Engineering Week Banquet on February 16th. This award is made to individuals who demonstrate outstanding professional qualities and have a top reputation for engineering education and leadership. Recipients must be individuals who have contributed significantly to students’ extracurricular engineering activities, and/or to scientific achievements with respect to industry applications.
OCEC cited Prof. Jim Moore as an interdisciplinary scholar works at the boundaries of transportation engineering, logistics, and transportation planning to frame, attack, and solve the public and private sector transportation problems that characterize life and commerce in Southern California. His research extends seamlessly across disciplinary boundaries, institutions, and economic sectors. Prof. Moore has done fundamental work at the boundaries of earthquake and transportation engineering. He collaborates effectively with colleagues from many California institutions, and his outreach to private sector firms and public agencies through the Los Angeles and Orange County chapters of WTS International has done much to connect his colleagues to research opportunities and his students to employers.
