December 02, 2004 — Epstein ISE Department doctoral candidate Luca Quadrifoglio received the Council of University Transportation Center's National Student Award for best non-thesis publication of 2004. This broadly competed award is given annually by the CUTC for the top non-thesis project, report, or paper in science, technology, policy, or planning. The award includes a cash prize of $1,500. Mr. Quadrifoglio's submission is titled "An Insertion Heuristic for Scheduling Mobility Allowance Shuttle Transit Services." He will be recognized at the CUTC Awards Banquet held on Saturday, January 8, 2005, immediately preceding the 84th Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board. Luca's advisor is Professor Maged Dessouky. The work was sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

The CUTC has an annual PhD dissertation competition to which USC students in SPPD and the Viterbi School of Engineering frequently submit. This is the first occasion on which a USC submission has won a CUTC award in any category.
