Daria Shembel's primary academic interest lies in Boris Pasternak's original poetics, translations and life. She also has research interests in cinema, totalitarian aesthetics, various aspects of Russian modernism and metrics. She is currently involved in a project with Prof. Postoutenko compiling the Rhythmico-Syntactic Dictionary of Iambic Tetrameter. As a TA at USC she teaches various levels of Russian language. She also assisted Prof. Levitt teaching in the Thematic Option program which was devoted to political violence in Russian culture.
Daria's reason for moving to California was the opportunity to conduct research with Prof. Zholkovsky, whose theory of generative poetics had fascinated her for many years.
