Intermediate Russian SLL-220, SLL-250
The second year course focuses on grammar acquisition and formation of reading and conversation abilities. It extends the vocabulary and grammar of the first two semesters and covers all the major grammar topics needed to communicate in Russian. After the second year of Russian,

you will be able to read simple connected prose for general comprehension, to carry on a simple conversation with a native speaker in a vast number of situations : to initiate, continue and end a dialogue; to solve problems using Russian. You will be able to get the main idea expressed in a written text and be able to retell it, to read and comprehend informative texts.
The course focuses on learning enough vocabulary, basic grammar acquisition and oral skills in order to communicate effectively within the topics of everyday communication.

Cynthia Martin and Andrei Zaitsev. Russian Stage Two: textbook and workbook (consult your teacher).

A dictionary at this stage will enhance your acquisition of the language. The Oxford Russian - English and English - Russian dictionaries, available on the first floor of the bookstore, are particularly good. There is also a Pocket Oxford Russian Dictionary.
