Wire mesh, fiberfill, salt and paper. Steel wool, cherry blossoms, grease and spit, bubble wrap, tea leaves, washer rings, and a drain stopper chain. In response to digital technology, Jetsam employs an early photographic technique of directly exposing objects onto film. This video exaltation of the everyday analog objects is set to the music of Martin Tetreault and Otomo Yoshihide.

Sonia Bridge recently graduated with a Master's in Animation from the Royal College of Art, London in 2002. Previously, she has completed a double degree in Film/Video and Animation at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Vancouver, Canada 1999.

Post mark lick explores the materiality of the postage stamp and fleeting narratives of postcards. The use of stamps to maintain contact with friends and loved ones divided by geography, time, and personal or global history represents a means of communication that has waned in popularity as transportation and communications technologies evolve. Exposed directly onto film with no digital manipulation, Post mark lick explores the physicality of the postcard and the intimacy of the handwritten word.

UNTITLED
HYUNSOO BYUN
USA
VIDEO INSTALLATION
Screenshot
This untitled video installation consists of suspended globes, onto which are projected seemingly isolated body forms in their everyday movement. The functions of these components have been reduced to a minimal state, yet they radiate the full essence of the body in their rhythm and luminosity. The realism of Byun's imagery as well as her decision to wed video with 3-D forms creates a sort of active illusion that, upon close examination, breaks down into projection grids referencing the technology at work in the installation itself.

Hyunsoo Byun currently resides at Grand Forks, North Dakota, United States and is a faculty member of the Art Department, University of North Dakota. Her works have been selected for "Changing Visions of the American Self" at the International Center of Photography, NY, NY, "National Video Competition" at the A-1 Gallery, Knoxville, TN. Her experimental intermedia performance projects have been shown at various venues nationwide.

MESHFM: BROKEBEAT

USA
VIDEO INSTALLATION
meshFM: BrokeBeat is a live audio and video mixing performance that supplants both the DJ and VJ. The installation involves live mixing of downloaded media fragments from the internet by users who enter the occupied space to recombine the elements into a new gestalt. The space consists of an internet hub, a sound system, a few laptops and a projector, relying solely on user input for its content.

This is a collaborative project by the meshFM crew: including John Phillips, Nathaniel Clark, Matt Hope, Neil Stuber and some others. John Phillips will act as the administrative contact. Jonathan Phillips is an artist, catalyzer, and researcher investigating the synthesis of art and science in relationship to mass culture. His individual and collaborative projects are credited internationally, most recently at the ICA London's Cybersonica Festival and among a multitude of other events and project spaces. His belief in a strong critical dialogue among digital practitioners in a multidisciplinary setting shapes much of his work in an emerging cultural infrastructure.
