LIEUTENANT RAYMOND “ANDY” HILL

UNITED STATES NAVY

Lieutenant Raymond “Andy” Hill earned a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy via the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps in June 2005.

Lieutenant Hill’s first assignment was to remain at MIT for graduate studies, and he completed his Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering in September 2007 with a focus on centrifugal compressor stability studies in the Gas Turbine Laboratory.  In September 2007 he reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida to begin his Naval Aviator Training, earning his “Wings of Gold” in May 2009 as an Unrestricted Naval Aviator.

Following Fleet Replacement Training in the SH-60B Seahawk at Naval Station Mayport, Florida, Lieutenant Hill reported to the Battlecats of HSL-43 in February 2010.  His assignments there included First Lieutenant, Detachments THREE and FOUR Administrative Officer, Detachment FOUR Operations Officer, and Assistant Squadron Operations Officer.  He deployed as a Helicopter Second Pilot aboard the USS Preble with Detachment THREE from February 2011 to September 2011 to the SEVENTH and FIFTH Fleet Areas of Responsibility, participating in OPERATION TOMODACHI to provide disaster relief to the Northern Honshu earthquake of March 2011, counter-piracy operations in the Gulf of Oman, and other operations.  LT Hill deployed as an Aircraft Commander with Detachment FOUR aboard USS McClusky from January-April 2012 to the FOURTH Fleet, providing support to Counter-Drug operations.

His current qualifications include Helicopter Aircraft Commander, Crew Resource Management Instructor, Mission Commander, and Air Combat and Tactics Continuum Level 3 Airborne Tactical Officer.  He has accumulated over 600 hours flying the SH-60B and MH-60R Aircraft with over 850 total hours of flight time.  His personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
