MAJOR MARK BURRELL
UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS
Major Mark Burrell is a native of Oak Grove, Louisiana. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1989 and subsequently completed recruit training in April 1989. Upon graduating, he reported to Fort Eustis Virginia where he attended the Basic Transportation Course. Afterwards, he reported to CSSD-14, 2nd FSSG, Marine Corps Air Station El Toro where he served as a traffic management specialist. In 1991, he was transferred to Marine Security Guard Battalion and subsequently assigned to American Embassies in Moscow, Shanghai and Tokyo. Upon completion of this tour, he was assigned to MCLB Albany, Georgia where he served as the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Traffic Management SNCOIC. In 1996, he was selected for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP) where he attended the Military College of South Carolina, The Citadel.
Upon graduation in 2000, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant. Following the Basic School and the Military Police Officer Basic Course, he was assigned to Security Battalion, MCB Camp Pendleton where he served as a Platoon Commander, Company XO, Company CO, and PMO Operations Officer. In 2005, he was transferred to Second Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD Parris Island where he served as a Series Commander, Company Commander and Battalion Operations Officer.
In 2008, Major Burrell was transferred to Combat Logistics Regiment-2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. During this tour, Major Burrell served as the HQ Company Commander, PSD Officer in Charge, and Camp Commandant while deployed to OEF, Helmand Province Afghanistan from March 2009-March 2010. In July 2010, he was assigned to Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D. Butler, Okinawa Japan where he served as the PMO Operations Officer and Deputy Provost Marshal. In June 2013, he was assigned to the NROTC unit at the University of Southern California where he currently serves as the Marine Officer Instructor.
Major Burrell is also a graduate of the Military Police Captains’ Career Course and Expeditionary Warfare Course (Non-Resident).
