Commanding Officer

COLONEL ROCKY MORRISON

UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS

Colonel Morrison graduated Central Washington University with a B.A. in economics. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in March 1982 and completed The Basic School (TBS) in August 1982. Colonel Morrison started initial flight training in December 1982 at NAS Pensacola and was wing in August 1984 at NAS Beeville in Texas. He was assigned to VMFAT 101 at MCAS Yuma to fly learn to fly the F-4 phantom and completed training in August 1985.

Colonel Morrison joined the “Death Angels” of VMFA 235 where he served as the Legal Officer, Assistant Operations Officer and Pilot Training. He attended the Navy Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun) in October 1987. He transferred to the Amphibious Warfare School (AWS) in 1988. Colonel Morrison then transitioned to the F/A-18 hornet and was reassigned to the “Fighting Shamrocks” of VMFA 333 where he participated in Operation Desert Shield and desert storm where he flew 46 combat missions from Shake Isa Air Base in Bahrain.

Colonel Morrison was reassigned to VMFAT 101 in Apr 1992 as an F/A-18 flight instructor where he served as the Logistics officer, Admin officer and Operations officer until June 1995. Colonel Morrison was selected to attend the Naval war College and graduated in the summer of 1996. He was reassigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) as an air planner and targeting officer where he deployed to Kuwait during Operation Desert Fox in the spring of 1998.

Completing his tour he was reassigned as the Executive Officer of the “World Famous Red Devils” of VMFA 232 in the summer of 1998. Colonel Morrison was then assigned as the Commanding Officer of the “Fighting Bats” of VMFA (AW)-242 in June 2000 and completed his command tour in December 2001. He was selected to top level school and assigned as a security fellow at the Hoover Institute; Stanford University. He was reassigned to the 3D Marine Aircraft Wing staff and as the Executive Officer of Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) eleven. He participated in OIF II (Nov 2004 to Mar 2005) and flew another 18 combat sorties out of Al Asad AB, Iraq

Colonel Morrison has over 3600 hours of flight time and his personal decorations include, MSM with two gold stars, Air medal with combat “V” and numeral 4, NCM with gold star along with several unit and campaign awards.
