Commanding Officer

COLONEL ALVAH  EDWARD INGERSOLL III

UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS

Colonel  Ingersoll graduated from the NROTC program at the University of Southern California in 1982 with a B.A. in  Political Science and commissioned as Second Lieutenant.  

Upon completion of The Basic School he was designated an infantry officer.  Operational assignments include Platoon Commander with 3d Battalion, 7th Marines, Company Commander and Operations Officer with 3d Battalion, 2d Marines, Operations Officer for 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) and Commanding Officer of 2d Battalion, 1st Marines and Commanding Officer of Headquarters and Support Battalion Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.   His staff assignments include Force Structure Analyst, Manpower Personnel and Programs Division, Headquarters US Marine Corps,  SOCCENT desk officer US Special Operations Command,  I MEF Amphibious Plans Officer and Strategy Division Chief,  The Joint Staff.   

Colonel Ingersoll earned a Master's degree in Management from the Naval Postgraduate School and is a distinguished graduate of the Amphibious Warfare School, Naval Command and Staff Course and graduate of the National War College receiving Master’s degrees from the Naval War College and National War College in Strategic Studies and National Security Affairs.   Colonel Ingersoll is a designated Joint Specialty Officer.


Colonel Ingersoll participated in contingency operations in Somalia and Bosnia-Hercogovina, as Officer-in-Charge, Special Operations Command and Control Element-Kuwait during Operation Desert Thunder,  Humanitarian Assistance Operations in East Timor with 11th MEU(SOC). As part of the Tarawa ARG/15th MEU(SOC) he led  Battalion Landing Team 2/1 in Operation Iraqi Freedom seizing the port of Umm Qasr, Az Zubayr and follow on combat operations in the Dhi Qar province.


His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with “V”, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal and Combat Action Ribbon.   

Colonel Ingersoll is married to the former Rose Denise Solomon (USC '81) and they have two daughters: Shannon a Mechanical Engineering Major at Florida State University and Shelby who will be entering Junior High this year.
