Political Activity

  1. USC, as an institution, will not participate in (including the publishing or distributing of statements) any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office (collectively, "Political Statements") and no employee or agent of USC is authorized to make any Political Statement, or expend any university funds for or against a candidate, on USC's behalf. Any commitment, contract, Political Statement, or expenditure undertaken by an employee or agent of USC in the name of the university that is contrary to this policy is unauthorized and shall be void and unenforceable.
  2. Any Political Statement made by an employee or agent of USC shall be solely attributed to such individual and may not be attributed to USC, as an institution. While such individual is entitled to identify his or her employment by or affiliation with USC, such individual is not authorized to make any Political Statement or expend any university funds for or against a candidate on behalf of USC, as an institution.
  3. Any statement taking any position or expressing any opinion in connection with any proposed or current legislation, ballot measure, proposition, regulation, law or ruling made by an employee or agent of USC shall be solely attributed to such individual and may not be attributed to USC, as an institution. While such individual is entitled to identify his or her employment by or affiliation with USC, such individual is not authorized to make any such statement, express any such opinion or expend any university funds in connection therewith on behalf of USC, as an institution, without the prior written approval of the university's Governmental Relations Council.
