The recording arts program provides training for careers in the complex recording industry with highly skilled, professional faculty. Course offerings include the principles, techniques and aesthetic possibilities of the audio recording chain and its application to the various media; studies in remote recording techniques; multi-channel re-mixing with simultaneous audio reprocessing up to 48 channels; and the application of multi-track studio to film music production. Laboratories offer musicians the opportunity to learn basic studio procedures and recording technology and to gain practical experience in studio work of all types. In addition, the program provides special studies in record production management with emphasis on the function of the producer, studio procedures, music business law, union relations, and in the development and use of recording facilities in home studios, community centers, small businesses and public schools.

Bachelor of Science in Music Recording
Entrance Requirements
Applicants who select the bachelor of science in music recording as their major must be able to read, play and/or sing simple diatonic melodies, show reasonable keyboard facility and knowledge of major and minor scales, key signatures and intervals. A personal audition or recent cassette tape recording is required of all applicants in their principal performance medium. A knowledge of calculus and physics is desirable.

A minor in music recording is offered for undergraduate students to provide them with the background necessary to enter the field of recording engineering and to familiarize them with the design needs of recording equipment. A minimum of 24 units of coordinated courses is required for completion of this minor.Prerequisite-acceptance into the program will require either MUPF 475a or the equivalent and a personal interview by the Recording Arts Department to assure that the student has sufficient musical background and skill.
Students admitted to this minor will be expected to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and to maintain that average with no grade lower than a "C" for all courses taken in the minor.
