Bay Psalm Book
Special Viewing and Reception

Dean Catherin Quinlan of the USC Libraries and David Redden, vice chairman of Sotheby's, invite you to a reception and special viewing of the first book printed in British North America—the Bay Psalm Book.

The Bay Psalm Book that will be on view is one of only 11 copies to survive the 373 years since its printing in 1640. Sotheby's soon will auction the volume for an estimated $15 to $30 million. The sale will mark only the second time in a century that a Bay Psalm Book has been up for auction.

The Bay Psalm Book's showing at USC offers a rare, firsthand view of this artifact of North American history, the history of the Puritanism and colonial religious culture, printing and book crafts, and the art of translating religious and historical texts. The book will be on view for only one day, beginning on the evening of Wednesday, November 13, 2013.
