COFFEEHOUSE CONVERSATION: NOT OKAY TO PAY THIS WAY?
For those who find
themselves at the top of the corporate ladder it has become both accepted and
expected to receive salaries based on favorable terms that can bear little
resemblance to those offered other employees. While such voluntary agreements
between two competent consenting parties are perfectly legal, some have charged
that these agreements are unjust.
Some critics argue that executive pay packages harm shareholders or society at
large, as with payment incentive structures that create an environment of risky
behavior and divorce executive salaries from the very metrics that are used to
assess fair compensation for employees, such as effort and contribution.
Are any of these criticisms correct?
When it comes to compensating corporate executives, when is it not okay to pay
in a particular way?
