Did you know?

If you are having difficulty opening a file from the internet, an easy solution is to right-click the file and choose "Save target as". This will allow you to save the file to your hard drive. Then simply start the corresponding program (usually Microsoft Word, Excel, or Adobe Acrobat) and load the file from your hard drive as you would with any file.

  User Help Guide

The following are possible solutions to the most common website issues. If you need additional assistance, please call (213) 740-6786.

WEBSITE TIPS:

Arrows:

Throughout this website you will find red arrows near topic headers and links. These arrows (and often the text itself) are clickable. An up arrow () will always return you to the top of the page without having to scroll up. A right facing arrow (  ) will take you to another page within this website or a file/page on an external site. A downward facing arrow () will take you to the area on that page that is being described.

Quick Links/Quick Jump/Quick Find:

These drop down menus found on the right-hand column of many pages will allow you to quickly jump to a specific area of that page. Remember, you can use the up arrow () to return back to the top of the page when done.

Main Menu:

The white selector arrow that appears when you move your mouse over any of the main site areas (Home, Who We Are, What We Do, etc.) will turn gold when on the main page of that section to let you know where you currently are.

Related Links:

This feature, found on the right column of many pages will offer two or three closely related links to the page you are viewing.

FILE/DOWNLOAD PROBLEMS:

When I click on a file to download the computer is asking me what program to open it with (or similar error)...

Certain computers are not configured properly to associate file extensions (.doc, .xls, .pdf) with the correct viewing software. This happens frequently to USC computers when the applications are run from the network (Novell delivered applications). If this happens, the easiest solution is to save the file to your hard drive either by selecting that option if prompted to "Open file from current location" or "Save this file." If you do not have those options, simply right-click on the file and select "Save Target As" from the pop-up menu. Then, load the viewing program (Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, etc.) and load the file from your hard drive as you normally would. This is also helpful, because now the file is available on your computer at any time.

What program do I use to open a file?

99% of the files available for download on this site will be in one of five formats.

     Microsoft Word 2000 = filename.doc

      Microsoft Excel 2000 = filename.xls

      Adobe Acrobat = filename.pdf

     Real Media = filename.rm

     Internet Explorer = multiple formats

In order to open the first two types, you must have access to Microsoft Office 2000. These files will generally not open correctly in Office 97 programs.

The third type, Adobe Acrobat PDF, can be opened in Adobe Acrobat Reader which is a free software package. Many computers (and all Novell Delivered Application packages) come with Adobe Acrobat Reader. This software allows you to view and print documents, maps, and more. If you need the software, it can be downloaded by clicking here: Download Adobe Acrobat Software

Real Media player can be downloaded for free (you do not need to purchase a subscription or pass to use the basic player). Download Real One Media Player

The final type, indicated with the Internet Explorer icon, simply means that the file can be viewed from your web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Opera, etc.).

ESVP (ONLINE RSVP)

How do I know if my esvp went through?

If you click "Submit" and are taken to a page that begins " Your Form Has Been Mailed..." then your esvp has been received. If the form indicates that certain fields are missing (name, email, etc.) press the back button on your browser and check your esvp for missing fields. All fields marked by an asterisk must be completed for the software to process your rsvp.

Once I have submitted my esvp, can I return to the information page without resending the reservation?

Certainly. You can enter the four-digit esvp number any time to read any updates or to check directions to the event. Once you have submitted your esvp, however, you should not fill out the form again or a duplicate reservation will be created.

This event requires a ticket purchase, can I do that online as well ?

Not at this time. The online esvp form should not be used to transmit sensitive data like credit card or social security numbers. You can submit everything else online, but will need to call (or mail) in your credit card information if needed for the event.
