Mark Hucklebridge has been hired as the new director of marketing and communications by the Easter Seals Central California. A native Californian and 24-year-resident of Santa Cruz County, Hucklebridge is working to raise awareness and generate community support for Easter Seals programs for children and adults with disabilities.
James E. Newby EdD has retired after a 25-year career at Howard University. Before going to Howard, he taught at Cal State Long Beach, Los Angeles Harbor College, El Camino College and Pepperdine University. Newby lives in Grand Rapids, Mich., with his wife, Patricia (Evans) Newby, who is superintendent of Grand Rapids Public Schools.
Lynn Swann a 1973 consensus All-American flanker and member of USCs 1972 national championship football team, was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was already a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. Swann played nine seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and appeared in Super Bowls IX, X, XIII and XIV, earning Most Valuable Player honors in Super Bowl X. He is among eight former USC players and three ex-Trojan assistant coaches in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Bob Hogue was elected State Senator in the state of Hawaii, representing Kailua and Kaneohe on the island of Oahu. Hogue is a long-time television sportscaster in Hawaii, California, Iowa and Montana. In his spare time, he continues to write a weekly column for MidWeek Magazine and does basketball play-by-play for Hawaii Pacific University. He and his wife, Elaine, have four children and live in Kailua.

Betsy A. McLane MA, PhD 82, has been named executive director of the Backyard National Childrens Film Festival in Los Angeles. She was previously executive director of the International Documentary Association from 1992 to 2000 and retains the title of director emeritus of that organization. McLane has served as a juror at the Sundance Film Festival, the Hawaii International Film Festival and the AFI Sony Video Awards, and is founder of DOCtober, an international documentary film festival now in its fifth year.
Richard A. (Rick) Palmer MBA 79 was promoted to vice president-finance of the Automobile Club of Southern California. He previously served as vice president and controller of the Auto Club. Prior to joining the Auto Club, Palmer was CFO of Western Financial Bank in Irvine and spent almost 10 years with First Interstate Bank in both California and Arizona. He and his wife Ann, daughter Lindsay and son Jeff live in Dana Point.
Frederick J. Ryan, Jr. JD JD '80 was elected president, chief operating officer and vice chairman of Allbritton Communications Company in Washington, D.C. He joined the company in 1995 after serving as Chief of Staff to former President Ronald Reagan and Assistant to the President in the White House. Ryan also serves as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Foundation and is a director of Riggs Bank N.A., where he serves as chairman of its International Committee.

Sally A. Brenner EdD has retired after 27 years of service as professor of allied health and medical assisting at Ohlone College in Fremont, Calif. The past president of EDUCARE-North, and a retired Army National Guard Colonel, Brenner held the position of first State Chief Nurse for the California National Guard, along with other administration positions. She and husband Stanley 51, MS 72, will relocate to Rio Vista, Calif.
Peter Kairoff MM, DMA 85, has released a second CD recording, on Albany Records, of piano the music of turn-of-the-century American composer Horatio Parker. Professor of music at Wake Forest University, Kairoff is also director of that universitys campus in Venice, Italy, where he and his family spend several months each year.
John Meyer MPA has been appointed vice chancellor of resource management and planning at UC Davis. He previously served for more than nine years as city manager for the city of Davis.
George Harold Waxter completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and passed the American Board of Internal Medicine board certification exam in internal medicine. Carlos Noriega completed his second space flight on STS-97, where he conducted three space walks supporting the construction of the International Space Station (ISS). He flew a shirt for the USC NROTC unit and Fight On was played by Mission Control as the wakeup music on the morning of his second space walk. Since the flight, Noriega has been named a commander of a future ISS long-duration mission, commanding a joint U.S.-Russian crew.
Nancy C. Unger MA, PhD 85, was selected to present the William L. Davis, S.J., Annual Lecture at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash. She is only the second alumnae to be selected for this event, which highlights outstanding historians.

The centers Education Division is one of the nations largest arts education programs, currently serving 1 million students and teachers at 15,000 events in more than 250 communities each year.
