Tom Mahnken has been promoted to the rank of professor of strategy at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, R.I.

Adrienne Sharp MPW’s debut collection of stories, White Swan, Black Swan (Random House) was published in June 2001. The book explores the lives of both fictional and famous dancers on and off the stage. It was a summer selection for the Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers program and a Los Angeles Times bestseller.

Wanda Austin PhD was named senior vice president of the engineering and technology group at Aerospace Corp., responsible for managing a staff of more than 1,000 engineers and scientists who provide specialized technical support in a wide range of space-related disciplines. She has been involved in the Minority Engineering Program at USC and a number of other programs in the Los Angeles area that support the advancement of women and minorities in academic and professional settings.

Mark W. Rocha PhD was named president of the Argosy University/Los Angeles campus, located in Orange County. He will oversee the academic policies and procedures for the school while providing leadership in developing institution planning and research activities. Prior to joining Argosy University, he was president of Santiago Community College.

Laura (Skandera) Trombley PhD will become the fifth president of Pitzer College, in Claremont, Calif., in July. Currently chief academic officer at Coe College, a private liberal arts college in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she is a leading Mark Twain scholar prominently featured in a recent Ken Burns documentary.

Kat Derrig-Palumbo is CEO of MyTherapyNet Inc. (www.mytherapynet.com). She has also been appointed CEO for Innovative Professional Solutions Inc., a subsidiary of MyTherapyNet Inc. Both companies provide nationwide corporate consulting, online psychotherapy and life coaching. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist and certified hypnotherapist who runs a successful private practice. She is also an adjunct professor at National University, instructing students in the master’s level psychology program, and is a member of the advisory board for the University of LaVerne’s health administration program.

Arthur J. Ochoa, an estate planning and tax-exempt organization lawyer, has joined Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s department of community relations as director of planned giving. A graduate of Yale Law School, he previously worked at O’Melveny & Myers LLP and Irell & Manella LLP. Prior to attending law school, he oversaw donor and government relations for Youth Services America, a national nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C.

Boyd K. Rutherford JD assumed the duties of associate administrator for enterprise development at the U.S. General Services Administration. He most recently directed business development for Kelly Law Registry of Washington, D.C., where he was responsible for marketing, legal staffing and placement solutions in the private and public sectors.

Harold Washington Jr. PharmD was installed as the president of the California Pharmacists Association (CPhA) in February 2001. He has been practicing pharmacy since 1991 and is the pharmacist in charge at the Washington family-owned Bevans Pharmacy in Los Angeles. He has been active in the pharmacy community throughout the past decade, from serving on various committees at CPhA to serving as president of the Central Los Angeles Pharmacists Association, a local affiliate of CPhA. He is a second-generation pharmacist whose father, Harold Washington Sr., was speaker of the House of Delegates of the California Pharmaceutical Association.

Gabriel S. Ahn, a resident of Los Angeles, has begun studies in the evening program at Southwestern University School of Law.

Thomas A. Donohue, and his wife, Katarina S. Hagman ’00, are living and working in Dusseldorf, Germany, where his company, Turner Construction, transferred him in October 2000. He is working for Turner’s parent company, Hochtief, in business development for the international division’s key account management group. Katarina is a technical service consultant for Nokia’s in-house IT department.

Deborah Morgan is the women’s rowing head coach at the University of Miami.

Christina T. Atteberry
was appointed Allegiance Telecom Inc.’s city vice president for Ontario/Riverside (Calif.). Previously, she served as an Allegiance sales manager in Los Angeles. Prior to joining Allegiance Telcom, Atteberry worked in Los Angeles for AT&T in various sales management, sales training and account management positions.

Alan F. Nordholm PhD, a navy lieutenant commander, was in the Pentagon on the morning on Sept. 11, 2001, when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the building. He played an integral role in the subsequent rescue operations.

David S. Reiter JD was named vice president and general counsel of 724 Solutions. In his new position, he will provide legal counsel to company management and the board of directors. He will also manage a worldwide group of attorneys who provide legal support for the corporation’s global operations.

Andrew Schuh has joined the Costa Mesa (Calif.) office of Lewis, D’Amato, Brisbois & Bisgaard. He was previously with O’Flaherty, Cross, Martinez & Ovando in Woodland Hills (Calif.). His practice includes estate planning and defense litigation of medical malpractice, automotive class-action and general civil liability claims.

Clint Howie MA joined the law offices of McGlinchey Stafford as an associate in the Baton Rouge, La., office, practicing in commercial litigation, construction litigation and franchise relations and rights. He is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas.

Natalie Pace was awarded a writing fellowship by the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She will be among approximately 20 fellows focusing on creative projects at the working retreat for visual artists, writers and composers. This is her second fellowship to the VCAA. Her first book, Run Away Home, told the true story of a 12-year-old runaway’s wild ride through the Hollywood music scene as she pursues, not fame and fortune, but a home.

Stephanie Saxton has begun studies in the three-year day program at Southwestern University School of Law.

Mike Fehrs MEd was hired as director of the Citrus College Foundation, responsible for developing a comprehensive capital fundraising program, planning and executing the foundation’s policies and activities, writing grants and serving as the administrative assistant to the superintendent/ president.

Richard Kim has begun studies in the three-year day program at Southwestern University School of Law.

Gregory Doll recently published his first book, Going Under, which is set at UCLA. The story follows senior James Whitmore, who, in the final weeks before commencement, is led down a path of obsession and frustration, leading to a shocking crime. Doll practices commercial litigation, intellectual property litigation and entertainment litigation in Los Angeles. He is currently working on his second novel.

Kimberly Clancey has been named 2001-02 managing editor for the Southwestern University Law Review. During the 2000-01 school year, she served as oralist for the Southwestern team at the Benjamin N. Cardozo National Entertainment Law Moot Court Competition and was named best oralist in the preliminary rounds.

Martha Garcia-Murillo PhD and Ian MacInnes PhD, both assistant professors in the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University, co-authored “FCC Organizational Structure and Regulatory Convergence” for the July issue of Telecommunications Policy. Garcia-Murillo was also invited to present at the 2001 U.S.-Korea Conference on Science, Technology and Entrepreneurship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she discussed interdisciplinary programs at the School of Information Studies.

George M. Gleason, Patricia Reza and Dominic Zampiello have all begun studies in the four-year evening program at Southwestern University School of Law.

Kai Dominic Murphy MFA is the film and new media specialist at the department of film for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Fiona Woon, a third year student at Southwestern University School of Law, has been appointed to Southwestern’s Interscholastic Trial Advocacy Program, her second year on the team. Through ITAP, law students test their skills in case preparation, opening and closing arguments, direct and cross examination, and the use of expert witnesses in national trial competitions.
