| California African-American Museum Chartered by the State of California in 1977, the California African-American Museum houses a permanent art collection focusing on works by African-American artists and people of African descent from the 19th century to contemporary times. Its historical collection includes documents, photographs and artifacts documenting events from the end of the Civil War through the 20th century. An emphasis is placed on the African-American experience in the West. The Museum features a sculpture court, theater, research library, exhibition design and artifact storage room and a gift shop. The Natural History Museum features world-famous animal dioramas, a spectacular dinosaur hall and a new permanent Dueling Dinosaur display, a sparkling gem and mineral hall with over 2,000 specimens and an Insect Zoo. In addition to its permanent exhibits, the museum offers a Discovery Center providing children with hands-on experience with live animals and dinosaur bones. Visitors can also view Megamouth, the worlds rarest shark a 14.5-foot-long male that is the only one of its kind on public display. (213-763-DINO)
