Concerned About Your Relationship: Am I Battered?

YOU MAY BE A BATTERED WOMAN IF YOU:

♦ Are frightened of your partner's anger
♦ Yield to your partner's demands because you are afraid of his anger or moods
♦ Apologize to people for you partner's behavior when he has been abusive to you
♦ Are afraid of your partner's jealousy
♦ Make decisions about going places or seeing friends according to how your partner will react
♦ Feel threatened by your partner when he is jealous or angry
♦ Have been hit, shoved, had things thrown at you, had your hair pulled, or have been forced to have sex
♦ Have been called names or threatened by your partner
♦ Stop seeing friends or family members because your partner is jealous of your relationship with them
♦ Have been blamed by your partner for many of his problems
♦ Feel you should help your partner overcome his problems with violence
♦ Abuse drugs or alcohol to escape the pain and reality of your relationship

OR, IF YOUR PARTNER:

♦ Is extremely jealous
♦ Has difficulty expressing his feelings
♦ Has hit, shoved, or kicked you or forced you to have sex
♦ Has broken things or thrown things at you in anger
♦ Has an unpredictable and explosive temper
♦ Criticizes and blames you frequently
♦ Is controlling of your behavior
♦ Doesn't allow you to have any money
♦ Was abused as a child
♦ Witnessed his father abuse his mother
♦ Has threatened to have you deported
