Recruitment and Relocation

Recruitment
As candidates consider working for USC, opportunities for professional growth, benefits and financial compensation may all factor strongly into their
decision making process.
But one often overlooked aspect, may make or break the deal - quality of life. They may be asking themselves "What kind of neighborhood will I live in? Is it a beach community, is it the suburbs, or is it a 'cool' urban area that I'll like? Is it affordable? What about the schools, the commute, and even the air quality?" Though often not asked directly, these key decision points need to be addressed during the recruiting phase. If you find you do not have the time, or more importantly the expertise, to address these issues, you may want to get recruitment assistance from a company who specializes in it.
USC has contracts with two full-service recruitment companies, Quest and Firstline Mobility. These companies, for a fee, can help recruites navigate past high housing costs and complex school choices to find a situation that will work for them and their families. They can provide information about neighborhoods, home buying, renting, schools, commutes, public transportation, places of worship, and more. Relocation
USC wants the transition for new hires to be as smooth as possible. To accomplish this, USC has contracted two full-service relocation companies,
Odyssey and Firstline, to help plan and coordinate new hire relocations. A well-organized relocation can help reduce the stress that many experience when moving or relocating (and reduce your stress as well). To assist you in the relocation process, the Center for Work and Family Life has put together this quick checklist of steps.
Checklist for New Hires (for departments):
1. Go to the relocation website for disbursement control and read through the
2. Determine employee's needs and relocation costs.
3. Decide if you are going to coordinate the relocation process yourself or if you would prefer to use a full-service relocation company.
Some factors to consider:
1. The new hire's position.
2. The types of housing & relocation services the new hire says they need.
3. The complexity of the move. More complicated moves will benefit from the expertise and coordination of a full service company. 4. Is the new hire open to having a full-service company work with them or would they prefer to coordinate all aspects of the move themselves?
5. The relocation package budget.
Some of the advantages of using a full-service relocation company are that, in addition to providing expert advice to the new hire, they can also reduce your administrative time and effort by handling all aspects of the relocation process. This might include: coordinating travel; moving household goods; temporary housing; reimbursing out-of-pocket expenses, as well as invoicing and billing for services.
For more information on how to decide if a full-service relocation company would benefit you and the new hire, please read,
."
Please note that departments save time and money by having a full-service relocation company perform key functions such as: coordination and administration of the moving vendors; counseling employees on the best use of their funds; collecting receipts and reimbursing out-of-pocket expenses. Therefore, the companies' administrative fees are paid for by the USC department and not taken from the new hire's offer amount.
To pay recruitment administrative fees, you may use either a Procurement Card or a Purchase Order. For relocations, including relocation administrative fees, only Purchase Orders are acceptable.
4. Create the relocation expense letter (please see sample templates for).
5. Once the new hire signs and returns the offer letter, begin the relocation process.
a) If you are coordinating it yourself, you can find USC contracted van lines and temporary housing under "Contract Moving Companies and
Temporary Housing Providers" on the page.
b) If you are using a full-service relocation company, complete and submit the Authorization Form to the appropriate vendor:
