Summer Camps and Programs for Families and Children

USC Resources

The After School Sports Connection (ASSC) is a part of the overall USC Family of Schools (USC-FFS) community outreach effort and runs all year. ASSC offers after-school sports instruction to students in third through fifth grades (8-11 years of age) at the following FFS schools:
♦ Norwood Street Elementary
♦ 32nd Street
♦ L.B. Weemes Elementary
♦ Foshay Learning Center
♦ Vermont Avenue
♦ St. Agnes and St. Vincent.
♦ ASSC also offers summer swim lessons through a partnership with Kids in Sports of Los Angeles

The National Youth Sports Program (NYSP), the USC Trojan Kids Camp Program, is designed for economically disadvantaged youth living around the USC Campus. The program provides an opportunity to promote a healthy and active lifestyle to young people ages 9-15. Each camper will be provided a snack and lunch each day and will be given a camp T-shirt. Applications will be available starting April 6, 2009. There will be a $100.00 voucher available, to cover some of the cost, for students who attend schools and clubs near USC.

Southern Cal Hoops Camp is a summer basketball camp held in Los Angeles and is designed for interested boys and girls. The staff of college coaches and players provides instruction. At summer camps the emphasis will be on teaching the fundamentals of basketball while having a great time with others. The Southern California basketball camp will be held in three locations this year. There will be an Agoura Hills basketball camp, Simi Valley basketball camp, and the USC basketball camp at the Galen Center. Please call (213) 740-3818 or (805) JAM-1USC for any questions.

Community Resources for Children

The California African American Museum encourages children and their families or individuals to participate in workshops and family festivals that expose them to a variety of artistic media, creative activities and lively, engaging entertainment.

The California Science Center offers science-rich, fun-filled experiences for children in pre-school through grade 12.

Colburn School of Performing Arts provides music, dance and drama training from introductory to advanced level to students from preschool to adults. Call (213) 612-2200 for more information.

The Museum of Contemporay Art has programs that can help introduce contemporary art to your children. Teens of Contemporary Art (TOCA) is a high school program for teens interested in exploring contemporary art with their peers and guest artists. Or, the whole family can drop-in , create art, and share a Sunday at the museum's hands-on, artist-led workshops for families with children ages 5 and up, by taking advantage of the First Sundays are for Families program. Museum admission is free to all participants. Reservations are not required. All family workshops and gallery activities are offered in English and Spanish. The Natural History Museum's offers Adventures in Nature for Pre-K through grade 8 the opportunity to explore a wide variety of museum topics, about Earth's features, creatures and cultures from around the globe. Enroll your child in hands-on, interactive classes and that will spark a child's natural curiosity and creativity.
