In 1990 Laurie Anderson toured the US extensively with "Empty Places",
before bringing the show to 17 foreign countries, complete with
translation into the local languages. Harper Collins Publishers
published the book "Empty Places " in November of 1991. The book
features song lyrics, spoken text and visuals from the show. Ms. Anderson shot a video for "Beautiful Red Dress" and a series of PSA's (personal service anouncements), many of which were included in the 1991 Warner-Reprise Home Video release Collected Videos. At the same time, Warner Brothers released the CD collection of United States: Live, which was originally released on vinyl in 1984. In 1990, she received an honorary doctorate from the Art Institute of Chicago, and she was the keynote speaker at the New Music Seminar in New York. In 1991 Laurie Anderson toured around the U.S. with her mostly spoken, highly topical show "Voices From The Beyond". She composed and recorded the soundtrack to Spalding Gray's film "Monster In A Box", and wrote and directed a video based on Bizet's Carmen for presentation at Expo '92 in Seville, Spain. Ms. Anderson covered presidential campaign events for a piece on National Public Radio, created a "Rock The Vote" PSA for VH-1, and recorded songs for the soundtrack of Wim Wender's new movie "Faraway, So Close." Ms. Anderson new live work Stories from the Nerve Bible had its US debut in Philadelphia in April 1993... a sold out 5 night run at the Annenberg Center. Plans are currently being made for an American tou of the work, which was staged staged ina an earlier form in Seville, Berlin, Frankfurt, and other cities in Spain, Germany and Israel. She nis currently on another book for Harper Collins (also "Stories from the Nerve Bible" for fall '93 release) and is continuing long-term planning with Peter Gabriel and Brian Eno on "Real World", an amusement park/theme park wich will be located in Barcelona, Spain. And there's that trip to Tibet... |
