Why You Should Join the Trojan Democrats
The USC Trojan Democrats are committed to expanding political participation among students and young people. We strive to inform students about the work the Democratic Party is doing to guarantee our generation a promising future. Education forms the backbone of all we in the Democratic Party believe in. We can go nowhere as a nation without expanding the minds of our progeny and providing the opportunity to people of every race, gender, class, sexual preference and situation to get a quality education and join the global work force. We strongly believe in student loan programs, President Clinton's AmeriCorps program, Headstart, affirmative action and in improving the quality of education in the United States. We seek to provide a basic standard of living for all Americans through raising the minimum wage, ensuring affordable and portable health care coverage for all, and demanding fair labor and work safety standards. We recognize the stress that development has caused on the global ecosystem and actively work to maintain environmental standards to preserve our fragile planet and provide clean air and safe drinking water for all. We want to make Americans streets safer by empowering law enforcement through community based policing, strengthening gun control, and fighting against domestic violence. The Democratic Party has long worked to ensure civil rights and liberties. We will fight till our last breath to preserve a woman's right to control her own reproductive health. Equal opportunity programs such as affirmative action are still needed to diversify the American workplace and to combat institutional racism.
The Trojan Democrats run an extensive voter registration project on campus, work to elect progressive candidates, and hold informational meetings to educate USC students, staff and faculty about progressive issues. It is our hope and challenge to expand Democratic influences on campus.
