About Communication Decency Act...

ALERT!

Your liberties have been trampled by Congress.

The United States Congress, operating on the assumption that since the Internet wasn't written into the Constitution, it isn't covered by the Constitution, has passed a law completely ignoring your First Amendment rights.

The Communications Decency Act, which the President signed on Thursday, makes criminals of us all. Wanna go to jail? Just put the "seven dirty words" on your web page. In fact, electronic publishing of the holdings in "FCC vs. Pacifica" will be illegal when the CDA is signed. Freedom of the press? Sure, as long as that press uses ink and kills trees. (Hmm, do you think that the timber lobby had anything to do with the CDA? :-)

For a more rational discussion of the new law, please read what the American Civil Liberties Union, the Center for Democracy and Technology, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the Electronic Privacy Information Center, and the Voter's Telecommunications Watch have written.

This page was turned black to protest the second-class treatment the U.S. Government gives to electronic communications. Thousands of web pages were blackened in a unified response to our government's short-sightedness. This page was black before the protest, and will remain black until I get a better idea.

A heartfelt "Thank You" to those Webmasters who participated!
