| 8/24/99 3:45 PM: Guzelyali was a small fishing harbor behind a breakwater. The locals reported leading depression wave follwed by overtopping of the seawall in the back of the harbor. A height of 1.25 m. It was reported that some small boats lost their mooring lines. The entire harbor was covered with a 1 - 6 inch thick layer of oil. This oil probably came from the large refinery across the bay. The day before had strong N to NE winds which would have blown the oil straight from the refinery to this part of the coast. |
