Full text of Unconventional Cancer Therapies 3rd and 4thed. The BC Cancer Agency is currently in transition between the 3rd edition (2000), and the 4th edition (2005). Each monograph will clearly reflect its edition number and year of revision and/or publication.
This manual is designed to provide objective information for patients and their families, relating to alternative and complementary therapies. Most of the information consists of direct quotations from the medical, peer-reviewed book and journal literature. Also included under each therapy is a "Summary" statement, which tends to best summarize the opinion given in the evidence-based literature. Additional sections within each monograph provide information about the description of the therapy, history, proponent/advocate claims of benefit, professional evaluation/critique, toxicity/risks, costs and references. This manual includes only forty-six of the many hundreds of unconventional cancer therapies available. The intent is to include the therapies that are most frequently asked about at the BC Cancer Agency Library/Cancer Information Centre.
