Human Genome Project

The Human Genome Project (HGP) begun in October 1990 to discover all the human genes (the human genome) and to determine the complete sequence of the 3 billion DNA subunits (bases). The DOE Human Genome Program and the NIH National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) together make up the Project. This site is maintained by the Human Genome Management Information System (HGMIS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
