Workshop #3: Conservation and Insulation
Date: Saturday, January 26, 2008
Time: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
Location: Edison’s Mountainview Power Plant, Redlands CA
Objective: We saw how natural gas is used to produce electricity by touring the Mountainview Power Generating Station. We looked at ways to save energy in our homes using simple modifications and investigated energy efficient technologies that can be used at home and school.
Participants took home a battery-free flashlight, radiometer for measuring infrared radiation, a box that demonstrates different insulations, and a bimetallic thermostat that each participant constructed his/herself.
