Eighty percent of all participants in USC TRIO Programs go on to enroll in postsecondary educational programs.
A Success Story
Maria Meléndez, a University Park resident since 1979, noted, "My daughter is starting college next year. My son is in college now. Upward Bound helped them take the high school classes they needed to get into college."
Maria is not alone. More than 2,500 neighborhood youth are supported academically by the USC TRIO Programs (formerly known as USC Educational Opportunity Programs Center).
Program Overview
USC TRIO's federally funded programs provide year-round academic enrichment and precollege programs for more than 2,500 neighborhood youth:
- Upward Bound
- Upward Bound Mathematics and Science Regional Center
- Educational Talent Search Project
USC TRIO administers the programs for low-income, first-generation, college-bound young people between the ages of 11 and 27. The annual budget for the center is more than $1 million. USC TRIO is a partnership between USC and the U.S. Department of Education.
