Research Notes

Data collection for this study was completed in the summer and winter of 2004. Maps, charts and listings, except where noted, reflect two different boundaries.

The first are the USC Neighborhood Outreach (UNO) boundaries, which identify specific areas surrounding the University Park and Health Sciences campuses of USC. These boundaries are used to help USC faculty and staff develop community-outreach programs that meet the needs of the communities within the "immediate vicinity" of USC's campuses referred to in the five University Community Initiatives.

University Park Campus boundaries are - North: Santa Monica/10 Freeway; South: Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd; East: Harbor/110 Freeway; West: Western Avenue. Health Sciences Campus boundaries are—North: N. Broadway; South: Cesar Chavez Avenue; East: Indiana Street; West: Daly Street/Santa Ana (5) Freeway.

Second are the boundaries that relate to USC Campuses and Surrounding Areas. These include downtown Los Angeles and consist of 159 census tracts. (You can find those boundaries on Map 6: Census Tracts Map from the first volume of the atlas).

The listings presented here reflect those resources found within these specific zip code areas: 90006, 90007, 90011, 90012, 90013, 90014, 90015, 90017, 90018, 90021, 90023, 90031, 90032, 90033, 90037, 90057, 90062, 90063 and 90071.
