USC Family Practice Residency Program at Keck School of Medicine

The Family Medicine Residency Program embodies the mission of the USC Department of Family Medicine and reflects the shared vision of the faculty members. We believe that our educational mission is first and foremost. Students, residents, fellows and faculty are all learners on a continuum. We believe that our mission is best fulfilled in a collaborative, collegial and intellectually inquisitive environment that is coupled with clinical and community service.

We are a truly unique organization. We have established a multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional model of training and clinical service. We believe that versatility is the cornerstone of our residency training. We have very rich environments that bridge the University, the community and multiple other sites in the state of California. We believe that the technical tools of modern medicine are to be balanced with our mission to provide comprehensive, culturally sensitive, community oriented health care to individuals and families. Our patient population is diverse and varied, offering the opportunity to learn the full scope of Family Medicine.

The family medicine residency at the Keck School of Medicine offers the benefit of training in a variety of practice settings and among diverse populations. Students and residents are exposed to both high tech academic and hands-on community medicine, and they have the opportunity to participate in ongoing research projects. Residents may also teach medical students in Introduction to Clinical Medicine.

At continuity clinics in the USC Family Practice Center at USC University Hospital and the USC Family Practice Center at San Gabriel, faculty and resident teams provide comprehensive health care focused on family needs. First year residents spend one half day per week in the Family Practice Center. Second and Third year residents spend two to three half-days and four to five half-days in the Family Practice Center each week, enriching elective experiences from the wide variety of community clinics in the department’s network.

Please look, ask questions and offer comments. The interview process is a bi-directional learning experience not to be underestimated. Our department prides itself in open dialogue, honesty and disclosure.
