Research Led by Valter Longo Highlighted in Science
Longo's studies on calorie restriction and longevity have suggested that fasting can strengthen cells to better withstand the toxic effects of chemotherapy. Longo and David Quinn of the Keck School of USC are preparing to recruit 12 to 18 bladder and lung cancer patients who will fast for 24, 48 or 72 hours before and just after chemotherapy as part of a clinical trial. The work is funded by USC and the V Foundation for Cancer Research, the story noted. More Information...
