USC

Partners and Friends

Since its inception in 1879, philanthropic support has played a crucial role in the University of Southern California’s advancement of teaching, research, artistic creation, and community service.  Since that time, the extraordinary generosity of alumni, faculty, staff, and friends has propelled USC to the top ranks of American research universities. Indeed, our sincere thanks go out to the tens of thousands of Trojans whose gifts—both large and small—are helping USC reinvent higher education.

Please use the links below to learn about some of the extraordinary contributions—and the philanthropists who made them—that are helping USC attract and retain top-flight students and faculty, enhance academic and community-outreach programs, and construct and refurbish state-of-the-art facilities for innovative teaching and research.

  • Trustee Gives $30M to Campus Center
USC trustee Ronald Tutor has pledged $30 million as the lead gift for USC’s new campus center. “I’m proud to be a part of USC and honored to contribute to this magnificent enterprise,” Tutor said. “This complex is the last significant element remaining in the current phase of construction at USC. It is a project that will make a real difference in the quality of student life, and it will transform the center of campus.”
  • $10M Gift Supports Epigenome Center
The Kenneth T. and Eileen L. Norris Foundation has contributed $10 million to support the launch of one of the nation’s first research centers devoted to the study of an emerging field of cancer research called epigenetics. Epigenetics holds great promise in the treatment and prevention of cancer, and this leading-edge facility will greatly advance the Keck School’s leadership in the field.  According to Ronald Barnes, executive director of the Norris Foundation, “We believe that the facility will be critical to the future of cancer research.”
  • Cinema School Celebrates Lucasfilm's $175M Gift
Acclaimed filmmaker George Lucas has continued his long-standing support of his alma mater with a landmark gift of $175 million. In the ground-breaking ceremony on October 4, 2006, the USC School of Cinematic Arts celebrated the Lucasfilm Foundation’s extraordinary generosity with hundreds of students, alumni, faculty, and supporters on hand.  The gift will fund several new buildings and launch a major endowment campaign.
