A Challenge to Dental Hygiene Graduates

Mrs. Wilma Motely (Class of 1933) has made a gift of $125,000 to begin the effort of funding the renovation of the school's dental hygiene clinic. Mrs. Motley hopes that her gift will encourage other dental hygiene graduates to fund the remaining $125,000 needed to complete the project. The equipment now in the dental hygiene clinic has not been replaced since 1972.

Wilma Motley served as member of the faculty of the school for 15 years. She has been active in many national dental organizations and honored innumerable times. Mrs. Motley's most recent recognition was in 1996 when the American Academy of the History of Dentistry honored her for lifetime contribution to dentistry. She has written two well-known publications in her field; one of these served as a standard textbook in dental hygiene education for many years. Her late husband, Bill, graduated from the dental school in 1934.

A fundraising drive is currently underway to meet Mrs. Motley's challenge. Donors who make a gift of $2,500 or more will be recognized with their name on a chair in the new clinic. The goal is to have the remaining funds in hand to replace the equipment by the end of 1998.
