Computing Final Percentages Since only percentages of correct answers are posted it may seem logical to add the two percentages and divide the result by two. This process is NOT accurate and is likely to give a incorrect result.
The final course percent is computed by adding the number of correct responses for exam 1 and exam 2 then dividing the resulting sum by 140 (the number of possible correct responses). This result is then multiplied by 100 to covert the two place decimal into a percent.
You can estimate the number of correct responses on each exam by converting the percentage from each exam into a two place decimal (e.g. 85% - .85) then multiplying the result by 70 (the possible correct responses). The result will likely be a decimal (e.g., 46.8 or 57.2) The decimal is caused by my rounding up the percents before posting them. You will need to round the results (e.g., 46.8 = 47 and 57.2 = 57). Once the correct responses have been computed for both exams you can proceed the process outlined in paragraph two above. 6/25/2008 |
